Burn Permits

Additional Information

You are not required to have a burn permit, however we do recommend only burning on days without wind.  You are only allowed to burn vegetation, non treated or painted lumber and household trash only.  SEE DNR OPEN BURN REQUIREMENTS BELOW.

Some of the conditions for open burning:

  • To take place during sunrise & sunset.
  • Must be at least 200 yards from a structure you do not own.
  • Burning is to be supervised at all times.

If you are going to burn, please contact dispatch and let them  know.  This prevents an accidental response by Highlandville Fire on a controlled burn.

They will need to know:

  • Location of the burn.
  • Date and how long you will be burning (approximately)
  • What you are burning
  • Your name and best contact number.

When someone drives by and sees the field on fire, they call 911 (Dispatch).  If Dispatch does not have a landowner/home owner that previously called this in, they are dispatching the Fire Department to a wild fire which will prompt a large response with our brush trucks and tankers.  Even further, if the passerby says the fire is near a structure, this triggers the auto aid and additional resources are sent from neighboring agencies.

Please call Dispatch and give them advanced notice.
